This is known as the ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection) technique. In vitro fertilisation is a technique for artificially fertilising an egg. It is conducted when a couple cannot conceive naturally. After fertilisation, usually several fertilised eggs are introduced into the uterus (womb), as the rate of early miscarriage is high.
