In Figures 45 to 48, inclusive, is illustrated the arrange-ment of a modern fireproof tank house, designed to handleedible and inedible products, under Government PLMFOCMFIG. 46—FIRST STORY FLOOR PLAN. The building is three stories high, with a cellar, andis divided by an 8-inch brick wall into two sections abovethe first floor. On one side is the edible department and onthe other the inedible is located. There is no direct connection between the two depart-ments; separate stairways are provided and all entrancesto the rooms are from the outside. The cellar is undividedand is used for the pressing and drying of fertilizer. Thebuilding is located adjoining the fertilizer storage and has 72 TANK HOUSES light and ventilation on three sides. Covered bridges onthe third floor connect with the offal department and themeat trimming room, which are located on the third floorof the adjoining buildings. The construction is of reinforcedconcrete with brick walls. The floors are finished withcement mortar and pitched to the drain outlets with a slopeof one-fourth of an inch per lineal foot.
