The axle struts do not have wheels, but glide over the brass-lined supports of the lower carriage. Small wheels are fitted to the front of the cheeks, on which, however, the top carriage does not rest until the jack with wheels has been raised at the rear. Brackets are provided around the ends of the rear axle body which grip around an outstanding edge of the supports of the lower carriage: these brackets secure the upper carriage to the lower carriage, but can also be tightened, so that they act as a friction brake. The lower carriage consists of two longitudinal supports over which the upper carriage glides, and a longitudinal support in the middle with a slot for the swirl bolt and brass rails for the wheels of the jack, the three shelves are connected by three cross beams, all of which have rollers in the corners. The ground board, which represents the aft deck of a radar ship with elliptical fence, has a border of trap gates. There is a large turning circle in the deck, but the piece can also turn around two points in the sides.
