HAT this family is denominated from the lordship of Comptonin com. Warw. appears from several authorities^ being descendedfrom ancestors, who were lords of the place before the William Dugdale, in treating of the owners of the lordship ofCompton, has given no account of their original descent; but fromthe following evidences it plainly appears, that Turchtl, => theson of Alwyne (cotemporary with King Edward the confessorand William the Conqueror) was the ancestor of this said Turchil resided at Warwick, and had great possessionsin the county, when William Duke of Normandy invaded thisrealm, A.
