An Anglo Saxon bishop 67 and two Saxon monks 66, 68. The bishop's mitre and episcopal cross were in use in the 10th and 11th centuries. The two monks wear robes or cassocks decorated in a particular manner along the edges of the wide sleeves and the bottom of the tunic. The Saxon mitre was flat at the top. Handcolored copperplate engraving from Robert von Spalart's Historical Picture of the Costumes of the Principal People of Antiquity and Middle Ages, Vienna, 1796.
