The firstforeman was Squire John Fiskeand the first apparatus was the box engineoriginally used here by Phoenix frame building at the corner of Georgeand Schureman Streets was the companysfirst home and it remained in this placefor fifty years. For the next seven yearsthe headquarters were situated where thepolice station now stands, and then weremoved to the present quarters on Rem-sen Avenue. Up to the time this company got itsnew steam engine in 1881, it had usedseveral hand apparatuses. The engine isone of those made by Clapp & Jones, ofHudson, N. Y., and, at the time of itspurchase, was one of the best in the mar-ket. Last year this company was givena new engine, the old one being in badshape.
