Flea Market on a sunny spring day at Halmtorvet, Vestrerbro, in Copenhagen every Saturday. Halmtorvet, a former red light district, has been renovated. Halmtorvet means hay or straw market. So perhaps Haymarket districts have parallels all over the world. The Danish Halmtorvet got its name in 1888, when the straw / hay market was moved from its earlier location at the present city hall square in Copenhagen. Københavns Loppetorv, the Copenhagen Flea Market, was moved from Israels Square to Halmtorvet when the new covered market, Torvehallerne, was built there.
