F. P. Fos-ter. In 1S8() he received the Republican nomination forMayor of Andersmi and was elected. It was during his incumbency that natural gas was dis-covered at Anderson and it was largely through his untiringefforts thai many of the large business enterprises which nowcontribute to the citys importance were located. Upon retiringfrom the office of Mavor he purchased an interest in the An-derson Ihrahi which property he managed for one year. Dur-ing his connection with the paper he was elected Councilmanfrom the First ward and being thoroughly acquainted with theduties of the position, on account of his previous experience asMayor, rendered valuable service in the administration of thecitys alTairs. In ISUl he was elected City Attorney by thecommon council and served two vears.
