In this plant, the facilities for charging the batteriesare comprehensive in principle but simple in battery circuit is controlled through bench boardpanels equipped with knife switches, rheostat handles. On one side of the room there are 288 ofthese circuits and on the other side there are 180 operators can easily handle all of these circuits andthereby charge and discharge a great number of batteriesat the same time. One of the interesting features of thischarging equipment is the method of mounting the gridrheostats. On the side shown in the photographs, theserheostats are mounted nine in a row directly behind andon a level with the board. On the other side, however,there was not enough space for this kind of mounting sothat some of the resistance had to be mounted above thetop panel. This type of mounting precludes accessibilitybut as in two years of operation there has been no needof repairs
