Rose Lawn at Kingsgate near Broadstairs in Kent was the home of Charles Hamilton who, writing as Frank Richards, was the author of the Billy Bunter books. His full name was Charles Harold St. John Hamilton and he wrote under a number of pseudonyms including Martin Clifford, Ralph Redway, Owen Conquest and Peter Todd. While the Greyfriars School stories featuring Billy Bunter are his most famous, he has featured in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's most prolific author and is thought to have written about 100,000,000 words in his lifetime (the equivalent of about 1,200 average length novels).
