This is a scanning electron micrograph of Lactobacillus fermentum, a gram-positive probiotic, lactic acid bacterium.
This is a scanning electron micrograph of Lactobacillus fermentum, a gram-positive probiotic, lactic acid bacterium, which is beneficial to human health if present in the gastrointestinal tract. In tests, L. fermentum KLD adhered better to the intestinal walls and resisted gastric acid and enzymes better than other 14 probiotic microorganisms. L. fermentum PCC was isolated in 1994 from a woman in Sweden. L. fermentum U-5 and L. plantarum U-14 demonstrated antagonistic activity against Salmonella enteritidis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Enterococcus feacalis, Candida albicans, Proteus mirabilis, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
