Harry Hemley Plaskett (1893-1980), Canadian astronomer. Plaskett, son of the astronomer John Stanley Plaskett, was educated in Canada, and, like his father, worked on stellar spectroscopy at the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory in Canada, where he worked from 1919-1928. He then worked at Harvard University, Massachusetts, USA until 1932, at which point he accepted the position of Savilian Professor of Astronomy at the University of Oxford, England. He retired from this position in 1960. In his time at Oxford, he oversaw the construction of two large solar telescopes. He served as president of the Royal Astronomical Society (1945-1947), and was awarded the society's Gold Medal in 1963.
