The plants form dwarf, compact bushes, clothed with peculiarly rich, bright foliage, from which rise long spikes of beautiful blue flowers, making a charming contrast, . 10 Horminum. Red topped; curious, 5 Patens. Handsome bluish-green, leathery foliage, and erect, strong stems, bearing heads of broad, tubular-lipped flowers, each fully two inches long, which for superb rich blue color cannot be surpassed by any plant we know of, 15 SPLENDENS (Large=Flowering Scarlet Sage). It is not many years since amateurs considered it necessary to purchase plants of the ever-popular Scarlet Sage, but now it is known with what ease and success they can be grown from seed, and how abundantly seedlings bloom all summer and fall. Under our hot summer sun, "this flame-colored beauty" is the most gorgeous of all plants. For months the blaze of flaming scarlet is intensely bril- liant, with great spikes of bloom completely concealing the foliage.
