When moderately full, it1-3 still contained within the pelvic cavity, and has a rounded form (, a), but when completely distended, it rises above the brim of thepelvis, and becomes egg-shaped ; its larger end, which is called thebase, or fundus, being directed backwards towards the rectum in themale and tha vagina in the female ; and its smaller end, or summit.
