During the prosperous jtimes between 1860 and 1870 this village grew till it jcame to contain about forty houses. Of these manywere vacant during the financial depression between1870 and 1880. In addition to the dwelling-housesnow here there is one store. CooKSTOX, a hamlet of fifteen miners houses, is amile above Dudley. It was named from Jesse Cook,an owner of coal land here. The population of tlie township in 1860 was 1511;in 1870 (including Broad Top City), 1883; and in1880, exclusive of the boroughs,
