Costume for Medea, designed by Berain for 'Thesee ' an opera with music by Jean-Baptiste Lully, first performed in 1675. Jean-Baptiste Lully (1632 - March 1687) was an Italian-born French composer, instrumentalist, and dancer who spent most of his life working in the court of Louis XIV of France. Jean Berain the Elder (1640 - 1711) was a draughtsman and designer. Thesee (Theseus) is a tragedie en musique, an early type of French opera, in a prologue and five acts with music by Jean-Baptiste Lully
