In 1885 he became travelingfreight agent for the same company, which senthim a year later to Dallas, Texas, as itsfreight and ticket agent. Later he became theroads assistant general freight agent, with of-fices at Houston. His next promotion was in1 892, when he was made general freight agentof the Southern Pacific Companys Texas 1901 he succeeded
