THE SYSTEM OF THE DETROIT RAILWAY COMPANY. During the last few years the city of Detroit has beenthe scene of many interesting and exciting incidents froma street railway standpoint. For several years the localelection has been waged largely upon the basis of aneffort to secure a reduction in the charges made on thestreet railway lines of the city. The present mayor, whohas held office for several terms, has been one of theprime movers in this direction. At the time of his elec-tion to the mayor-alty the street rail-way system of thecity was almost en-tirely in the handsof one cpmpany, thepredecessor of thepresent Detroit Citi-zensStreet RailwayCompany.
