The training allowed the Marines and soldiers from the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force to share tactics and work together to secure an objective. Iron Fist is an annual bilateral exercise designed to increase interoperability and strengthen the relationships between the Marine Corps, the Navy, the JGSDF, and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.
