An entry gate and seats at the historic Plaza de Toros in Ronda, Spain.
There are over 70 bullfighting rings in the region of Andalucia, where Ronda is located. Constructed in the late 18th century, the Plaza de Toros de Ronda is the oldest in the region. Originally taking place in village squares, bullfighting then became more formalized with the construction of bullfighting rings. The bullfighting ring in Ronda is also famous for it's bullfighters. Pedro Romero, one of the most famous bullfighters, hailed from Ronda and was part of a family of 3 generations of bullfighters. The Plaza de Toros in Ronda is considered small compared to other rings. The bullfighting ring in Ronda has a capacity of around 6,000 spectators, whereas the one in Seville holds over 12,000. It is owned and built by the RMR, or the Real Maestranza de Caballería de Ronda (Royal School of Cavalry), whose letters decorate the side of walls lining the ring.
