Men of Mercy in U-boat Zone. Aboard a Coast Guard cutter on convoy duty a doctor operates upon a seaman injured while working about deck. Despite the orderliness of this surgery, the operation is performed under trying conditions as the ship pitches and tosses, and there is always the possibility that a submarine may interfere. The surgeon, on the left, is Lieut () John J. Davis, assistant surgeon, United States Public Health Service, whose home is in Davenport, Iowa. He is assisted by Vincent J. Colzani, pharmacist's mate first class, of Salt Lake City, Utah.
