Finally, it has been shown that thesolid forged and rolled steel wheel can be appliedunder freight cars in place of cast iron w^heels withan actual saving of $J per 100,000 miles run, or ^56per 100,000 car miles. In considering the questionof car wheels for any service, therefore, from thestandpoint of safety, mileage or cost, the solid forgedand rolled steel wheel stands in front of all others. 145.
