The end of the war has released to the seed trade many bag filling machines that had been requisitioned by the Sub- sistence Division of the U. S. Army Quartermaster's Department. These ma- chines were used for putting up rations, especially soluble coffee. The Brown Bag Filling Machine Co., Fitchburg, Mass., supplied nearly its entire output to the army and has had few for the trade. Now, however, the company an- nounces it is ready again to fill orders. NEWPORT, R. I. Horticultural Society. At the regular monthly meeting of the Newport Horticultural Society, Novem- ber 12, William McKay, gardener for Henry A. C.
