Black-headed heron (Ardea melanocephala) flying, Lake Ndutu, Serengeti, Tanzania

A heavy rainfall and flash flood led to a rapid rise in the water levels of Lake Ndutu and the formation of a river where there normally is none. This occurred during the season of the great migration leading to some spectacular shots of the herds and their predators in an around the flooded area. A panning shot of a black-headed heron (Ardea melanocephala) showing perfect form with its pointed toes and stretched out neck as it flies through the air near Lake Ndutu, Serengeti, Tanzania
