This Roman Catholic church is the oldest cathedral in northern Europe. From 963 to 1531 it was the church of coronation for german kings and queens. It houses Charlemagne (Charles the Great) emperor's remains. From 1978 it is protected under the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) world heritage law.
