High school was reopened with aboutone-third of its former total, and soon afterwards theFourth ward school house was commenced. StateSupt. McMynn pronounced that building the bestin the state, and the Second ward was supplied witha like structure on the same plan. Widely extendedbuildings of only one story, would not be so orna-mental as the average of our school, buildings, butthey would be easier warmed and ventilated, and theresults, in a physiological sense, would far outweighevery other consideration, among the best informed. The High School is at present under the directionof Professor Shaw, whose efficiency as Superintendentof the city schools is a matter for the school board aswell as our citizens to be specially proud of. Thedenominational schools connected with the churchesof St. Raphaels, St. Regina and the Holy Redeemer,deserve special mention. There are excellent privateschools, whose merits can only be glanced at. R. is
