The grave of David Lloyd George, First Earl Dwyfor by the river Dwyfor in Llanystymdwy, near his childhood home

Earl David Lloyd George of Dwyfor grew up in the village of Llanystymdwy, although he was born in Manchester on 17 January 1863. Aged 12 (or there abouts) he scratched 'DLG' onto the village's bridge parapet. DLG became a solicitor, MP, President of Board of Trade and Prime Minister 1916-22. He was a cabinet minister from 1905-16. He laid the foundations of the welfare state. A colourful character, he led an exciting private life. Following his death, his final resting place is in a specially built grave by the banks of the Dwyfor. Clough Williams Ellis designed both the grave monument and village museum.
