Juvenile Bataleur (short tailed snake eagle) Eagle portrait. South Luangwa.

This is a juvenile Bataleur eagle i rehabilitated back to full health. It was found by one of our drivers. It was dehydrated, in shock and had a couple of small wounds to it. I put it in a secluded, dark, quiet thatched rondavel in camp. there i fed it honey water and small pieces of chicken for three days until it had regained its strength. then i let it outside in a small fenced area where it could stretch its wings and exercise its flight muscles. After a few days of this i woke up one morning to the sound of a lot of wing flapping. As i got out of my thatched hut i saw the bird fly up to the roof of a nother hut, it called once, looked around and flew out across the luangwa river. It was a great momment. Luckily for me the young one provided an excellent opportunity to photograph it close up.
