Giraffe tail. Close-up of the distinctive black-tipped tail of a giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis). The giraffe is the tallest living land animal. It can grow to a height of metres and feeds mainly on the twigs and leaves of trees. The dark tuft of hair on the end of its tail is used to swat away insects.
