The southern populations could again be described as intermediate but on careful examination this is not quite accurate. Both the north Haitian and southern populations have a reduced nuchal crest as compared with the north Dominican population but the nature of the reduction is different. The nuchal crest scales of north Haitian animals are long-based, low, rounded scales, not at all tapering; they are.
