We make rape and sexual assault too much of a joking matter. And I think we do it because it’s a way for society and the Marine Corps to cope, to try to get around the seriousness of the matter. And it’s unfortunate because it’s not a joking matter, it’s serious. After I shared that with him, he realized that it’s not a joking matter. Rape and sexual assault jokes dehumanize an individual and that’s not fair. I don’t care who you are, Marine or not, that’s not fair.
