The oldest still sailing cargo ship in the world is coming to Newhaven East Sussex today from Portugal with a cargo of olive oil and welcomed in the wind by well wishers on the jetty. The 1000 litres of organic olive oil onboard is from a group of small growers in Porto, Portugal, with following shipments planned for 2018. THE OLDEST STILL SAILING CARGO SHIP IN THE WORLD : NORDLYS The oldest still sailing cargo ship in the world is coming to Newhaven East Sussex today from Portugal with a cargo of olive oil and welcomed in the wind by well wishers on the jetty. The 1000 litres of organic olive oil onboard is from a group of small growers in Porto, Portugal, with following shipments planned for 2018. By selling all their oil via the Sail Cargo Alliance the growers will be able to buy their own olive oil press, leading to even higher grade olive oil in future. They are interested in becoming a workers' co-operative, something we will be able to support them with as a workers' co-operative ourselves. This relationship has been forged by New Dawn Traders, fellow members of the Sail Cargo Alliance, so that we can collectively offer olive oil that is exceptional in quality and as good as local (by removing fossil fuel from the transport).
