The government information leaflet entitled \AIDS: Don't Die Of Ignorance\", issued by the Department of Health & Social Security and distributed to every household in the country in January 1987. The leaflet briefly explains the nature of the virus, how it appears to spread, and identifies those who seem most at risk. Precautions such as the avoidance of intravenous drug abuse and merits of the condom as a prophylactic are stressed. The AIDS education campaign was conceived as a major contribution to preventing the further spread of AIDS, in view of the elusivity of a vaccine and lack of satisfactory drugs."
