Chemotherapy drug. Computer model of a molecule of the chemotherapy drug oxaliplatin (marketed as Eloxatin). Atoms are represented as spheres and are colour-coded: carbon (yellow), hydrogen (white), oxygen (red), nitrogen (dark blue) and platinum (light blue). Oxaliplatin is used in combination with two other chemotherapy drugs, fluorouracil and folinic acid, to treat colorectal cancer. The combination is known as FOLFOX. It belongs to a family of drugs known as antineoplastics. These drugs control or kill malignant (cancerous) cells by interfering with their DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid).
