MARYLAND WEATHER SERVICE 95 The Lewis Brantz observations were reduced to the Fort McHenry seriesby applying corrections derived from an overlapping period in 1836 and1837. The monthly means for the period from 1825 to 1830 were derived fromWashington, D. C, observations, and reduced to the Fort McHenry series byadding the departures from the Washington, D. C, normal temperatures tothe Fort McHenry normal. The means for the years 1859 to 1863 were re-duced to the Fort McHenry series in a similar manner by means of a 20-yearrecord of overlapping observations made at Shellmans Hills, about 20 mileswest of Baltimore. The record from 1817 to 1870 was then made conformableto the Weather Bureau record from 1871-1903 by means of departures derivedfrom overlapping records covering a period of about 20 years. Thus theentire record from 1817 to 1
