This gentleman, a magistrate and deputy-lieutenant for the county of Stafford, inhe-rited the estates in July, 1796, at the decease of his cousin, Charles Tollett, esq., highsheriff for Staffordshire in About the year 1720, George Tollet,esq. who had been a commissioner of thenavy in the reigns of King William andQueen Anne, purchased, of a branch of theEgerton family, Betley Hall, and variousestates in Betley and Audley, in the countyof Stafford, together with the impropriationand advowsons of those parishes. Fromthis gentleman they descended to Charles Tollet, esq. of Betley Hall,who served the office of high sheriff for thecounty of Stafford in 1782. He d. s. p. in July, 1796, and was s. by his cousin, thepresent George Tollet, esq. of Betley. Arms—Checquy arg. and azure, on achev. engrailed or, three anchors sa. On achief gu. a lion passant of the first. Crest—A pyramid erected on a pedestalof one degree arg. the top entwined by aserpent descending ppr. respecting anescroll, with the Motto—Prudentia in adversis. Estates—In Betley, Audley, and Baiter-ley, in the county of Stafford. Seat—Betley Hall, in Staffordshire. CLUTTERBUCK
