C20UGE WASHINGTON Next the senate proceeded to place nomina-tions before the electors, adopting on June 4,1900, the three following rules : First. The University Senate seconds the nomina-tion of each of the 100 names received that rank firstin the number of persons who have put them in nom-ination. Second. The individual members of the senate willeach second additional names selected by him from thenames (more than 1,000) placed in nomination. Third. The senate inviteseach of the 100 judges, uponreceiving the roll of nomina-tions contemplated in the twoforegoing resolutions, totransmit to us any other namewhich he considers should besubmitted to the judges,v/hich name will at once beseconded by the senate andforwarded to the judges as anadditional nomination. The result was that 234names were sent out to theelectors. Eight hundredadditional names that werepresented to the senatewere withheld by themunder the rules. Severalof the electors failed,
