Examine the bed of the artery with the finger 1 This direction is of special importance in taking the radialcalibre in the recumbent posture ; for then the patient is very aptto evert the supine Fig. 7.—Mode of using the Arteriometer, thiwrist being extended on a wrist-rest. Ifthis should not happen to be in a line with theprominent part of the styloid process, which formsa good general landmark for this observation, stain the site with a dermographic pencil. 3. Hold the arteriometer between the indexfinger and the thumb of the right hand, and plantthe foot-rests, one on the styloid process and theother on the flexor tendons, rendered tense by theextension of the wrist, and adjust the pad care-fully over the site of the artery. It is importantthat the observer should see that the inner foot-rest is well supported by the tendons, and if theseare not felt to be firm enough the wrist should besomewhat further extended. The instrumentshould be held, throughout the observation, per-pendicu
