Signpost, National Cycle Route 71 and W2W Route. Tan Hil, Richmondshire, North Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom, Europe.
The W2W is the name of a cross-country cycle route in Northern England, regional route 20. It runs from Walney Island in Cumbria to Sunderland on the River Wear (hence 'W2W', or Walney to Wear). The route was launched on 1 June 2005 to complement the popular Sea to Sea Cycle Route (C2C) that runs from Whitehaven to Sunderland. It is designed to be slightly harder and longer than this other route, totalling either 149 or 151 miles (243 km). As it has only been launched recently, the route is still undergoing some improvements (June 2005) to meet National Cycle Network standards. Tan Hill is a high point on the Pennine Way in the Richmondshire district of North Yorkshire, England. It lies north of Keld in the civil parish of Muker, near to the borders of County Durham and Cumbria, and close to the northern boundary of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It is in an isolated location, with the nearest town of Kirkby Stephen being an 11-mile (18 km) drive away.
