This tract, or the south part of it, was givenby Jonathan Smith ist, to his son in law Joseph Blyden-burgh, who married his daughter Deborah in 1690. Theancient mansion, doubtless built about the time of theirmarriage, and still standing, is the oldest house in Smith-town, and has descended from generation to generationdown to the present owner, Mr. Theodore 0*UU a. a. 0 u U z UJ Q mua RECORDS OF THE TOWN OF SMITHTOWN. 333 Page 322. The tract on the west side of the river wasincluded in the deed given b}^ Jonathan Smith to his sonPiatt Smith (see page 74). The lands descended to thetwo dau-o^hters of Piatt Smith, Elizabeth and Abisrail, wifeof Adam Babcock. The whole of this tract is said to havebeen sold by Adam Babcock and his sister in law to AaronSmith 2d, and the part next the river was purchased fromhim and his sons by Philetus Smith. It was left to his sonAlexander Smith, who left it to his brother Elias Smith,describing it in his will as All that tract I bought of PiattSmith (son of Aaron 2d,) and the land my father gave mew^hich he bought of Aaron Smith lying adjoining to theharbor. Elias Smith built the house, now standing onthe tract, for his daughter Phebe Treadwell (who marriedLeonard Lawrence) in 1821, a
