Fred Kiel, manager of the Florists' Supply House, has had the reputation of being a good salesman, but here's one that beats all records: While passing the market house the other evening, Mr. Kiel stopped to buy a watermelon from a tired, weak-voiced huckster, who had a whole truckload of melons left. While making the transaction, the huckster complained of having been there all day, selling less than a dozen melons. "You don't go at it right," said Mr. Kiel, and proceeded to show him. He soon had a large crowd around him. "Right this way, ladies and gen- tlemen; taste this melon, sweet as sugar," as he sliced out a generous piece. "Let me pick you out a goad one," as he thumped one, then put it back for the next customer and thumped another. They sold like hot cakes and in an hour and twenty minutes the truck was empty. The farmer shook his head. It was too deep for him. But we all agree with him that Fred Kiel is "some ; John Grande, Jr., has gone on a motor trip to Niagara Falls, Buffalo, New York, Washington, D. C, and other points. He expects to be gone about three weeks. Mrs. Ella Grant Wilson has arrived for the F. T. D. meeting and is at the Claypool hotel. Edward Grande has just returned
