Perhaps the two empty seats in my machine looked good, but nevertheless I did not feel inclined to be sociable, and still did not want them to know how impolite I really am; I stammered and giggled for a while, and wished I did not know how to talk over a telephone, and finally said it would be a pleasure to meet any ac- quaintance of his. Well, the little party was arranged. The next thing to do was for me to get "dressed up;" I got all decorated up in my best, like a battleship for inspection day, and if I looked like I felt, I was certainly some comic valentine, of the funniest type.
