The soil, however, is chieflyclay or clay loam, with an occasional sand and gravel ridge. Fair progress hasbeen made by the settlers who have located on the lots in the above-mentionedtownships. There are some large clearings and there is every appearance that,in the not distant future, Matheson will be the centre of a prosperous farmingcommunity. $12, has been expended on this road. 1913 ROAD CONSTRUCTION. 25. 26 EEPOET OX Xo. 80 Road Xo. A road along tlie town line between the townships of Walker and Taylor wasconstructed from the railway east to the township of Carr, a distance of 3 road was well cut out and gruibbed, but not burnt, at a cost of $1,900. Theroad passes througJi a fairly good country, on which a fair beginning has beenmade by settlers. jRoad Xo. 23. On the town line Ijetween the townships of Taylor and Carr. a road was cutout and grubbed ready for grading, with the exception of the burning. The roadis situate across the 3rd and 4th Concessions, a distance of 2 miles in length. $1,200 was expended on this road. The land adjacent to this road is very fine; the soil a rich clay loam. On Lot1, Taylor, and Lot 12, Carr, Concession 3, there are large clearings. Forty bushelsof fall wheat per acre were grown on Lot 1, and, notwithstanding the backwardseason, ripened.
