RICHARD HEDGES, Son of David, was born in Randolph, Vt., in 1785, andcame with his parents to Northfield in 1794. When alad he was sent to hunt up cattle, when all was a wilder-ness in Dog River valley, there being no building exceptStanton Richardsons log house, his father living at thetime at the north corner. This was a big tramp for aboy when the country was new, and wild animals wereplenty. In 1810 he married Rhoda, daughter of JoelReed, of Williamstown, and settled on the East Hill, thefirst farm west of Judge Paines grist mill, where he livedforty-three years. They had two children:.
