Tower Bridge open for traditional London sailing barge to pass through. Tower Bridge over the river Thames London, completed 1894 to designs by Barry & Brunel. Conflicting needs of road and river traffic were met by providing a bridge whose roadway could be raised to allow large ships to proceed upriver to moorings and wharves in the Pool of London.
