When they are as large as ones finger transplant the roots to mellow soil as de-scribed above, in rows 5 feet apart and about 3 feet apart in the row. The roots should be set in ridges with the crown even with thesurface of the soil. The ground should be kept well cultivated and irrigated the first season and stalks may be pulled early the next ROOTS, see page 108.
