There is simple frontal flattening skuii-(Peruvians, Caribbeans), simple occipital flattening (Peruvians), fattening,fronto-occipital or double-flattening, sometimes with unsymmetricalbulging at one side (Columbians, Vancouver Islanders), and peculiarelongation by lateral as well as other pressure (Aymara Indians, Peru,and some Vancouver Islanders). It is very remarkable that such long-continued pressure during infancy and childhood does not appear toinjure the brain; and that in cases where the families of the chiefsalone maintain the practice, they are able to keep their supremacy overtheir subjects whose heads are not deformed.
