1922 portrait of Archdeacon John Wakeford who in a celebrated case in 1921 was convicted of adultery and deprived of his post as Archdeacon of Stow. Afterwards he continued to dispute the findings, bringing proceedings for slander against the managing clerk of the Bishop of Lincoln's solicitors but became bankrupted as a result of legal bills. He suffered a breakdown and died in Barming Heath Asylum on the 13th February 1930. He penned a book entitled 'Protestant Panic: An Antidote to Secret Histories and Open Slanders '.
