NEW YORK No. 199, IMPROVED, 75 An early variety well adapted to summer and early fall production; resist- ant to tipburn. Heads medium large, compact, attractive; fairly dark green with somewhat prominent ribs and stout core. No. E-4, 85 A large shipping variety for the coastal area of central California. Heads solid, almost spherical, with well-folded leaves. Oak Leaf, 40 An old variety which has returned to favor among home gardeners because of its tender texture and resistance to heat. Leaves somewhat similar in outline to large oak leaves, medium green, compactly set. Prize Head, 47 An early non-heading sort for home garden use.
