The carved lintel, dated 1499, above the window of a house at the top of the Grand'Rue, Génolhac, France.

Génolhac is a village in the Cévennes region of France. The town has a long historywhich can be traced back to ancient times when the village was on the “tin route” – an old trading route. The Dominicans installed themselves in the village in the 13th century. Much of the centre of the village today can be traced back to the Middle Ages and many mediaeval features can be recognised when walking through the main streets of the village today. The maoson's coat of arms in this picture is dynasty of stonemasons from Montselgues, commune of Ponteils near to Génolhac.
